    Price

For the same garment, Turkish factories usually quote lower unit prices than Portuguese ones. Portugal's higher cost reflects EU wages and is often accepted by brands that value "Made in Portugal", EU production and simpler logistics. If price is your main constraint and your volumes are moderate to large, Turkey is usually the stronger option.

    Minimum order quantities

    Both countries offer small runs.

    Lead times and logistics

Turkish profiles on Supply EU include some very short production windows (2 to 3 weeks for Cen Textile and Roniteks), while others quote 6 to 8 weeks. Portuguese profiles range from 2 to 3 weeks (OMM) to 6 to 8 weeks of production after sampling (Seam Factories).

The bigger logistical difference is customs. Goods from Portugal move freely within the EU. Goods from Turkey need export and import formalities, even when no duty is due, which adds paperwork and a few days.

Agree the Incoterm with your factory and work with a freight forwarder.

    Certifications

Both countries have factories with recognised sustainability and safety certifications. ](/supplier/wat-) in Portugal holds GOTS and ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX, while Yasemin Tekstil in Turkey holds GOTS, GRS, OCS, OEKO-TEX, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and Jante Textile holds GOTS and OEKO-TEX. Always check certificates are valid for the products you buy.

    Which should you choose?

    Choose Portugal if:

    • you want EU production with no customs formalities
    • your brand positioning benefits from "Made in Portugal"
    • you produce premium jersey, knitwear or technical garments in small runs

    Choose Turkey if:

    • unit price matters most
    • you need streetwear, shirts, workwear, seamless activewear or socks
    • you plan medium to large runs and are comfortable with customs paperwork

Many brands use both: Portugal for premium lines and fast replenishment in the EU, Turkey for core volume.

    FAQ

Is Portugal or Turkey better for T-shirts and hoodies? Both produce them well. Portugal suits premium, small-batch jersey; Turkey is usually more price-competitive at higher volumes. See T-shirt manufacturers in Portugal and in Turkey.

Do I pay duty on clothes from Turkey? Usually not into the EU, thanks to the customs union, if the paperwork is correct. Import VAT still applies.

Which country has lower MOQs? Both have verified factories starting around 50 pieces. The bigger difference is price, not minimums.
